Toddlerhood (18 months)

The most active age yet.

It is the sweetest thing watching your child grow up– cheering as they take those first shaky steps and then watching them take in everything that the world has to offer. That sense of wonder — seeing them experience new things and look at the world with such raw curiosity — is easily my favorite part of motherhood.

But on the real: after what felt like only two seconds of that peaceful “wonder-full” period, I now find myself exhausted. My days are a blur of chasing him, saying “no!” more than I ever thought I would, and gasping as he masters a new skill… like climbing onto the coffee table the moment my back is turned.

Despite this new level of fatigue, Josh and I still find ourselves smiling in between the yawns and “floor time.” We are watching this little human being develop and grow right before our tired eyes.

The Shift: From “Wonder” to “The Chase”
This stage is a total pivot. It goes from a slower, observant period of discovery to faster paced, shocking moments of wonder when you realize just how fast your baby has grown (Brb, crying)

The “I Can Do It” Mentality: I’ve said this to Josh several times lately: I ALREADY miss this stage. I can tell this is a special one. Our boy is so brave— trying new things, learning he can walk (more like run) away, and insisting on doing everything himself. His current favorite? Buckling himself into his high chair. He is so proud of the “click,” but then immediately starts crying when he realizes he’s now locked in. He hasn’t quite made the connection that he is the one doing it yet! It’s a hysterically cute, funny, and bittersweet stage to witness.

Survival Strategy: Finding Playspaces

We just need to burn his energy elsewhere outside of the house, otherwise, it is a recipe for a new level of messiness and more coffee table climbing.
