Starting Solids & Navigating Allergies

We began feeding Evan solids at 5 months, right around the same time I ended my pumping journey. Finishing my last pump ever felt like such a victory—months of commitment and effort finally complete.

A mommy friend introduced me to Solid Starts and their 100-day plan, and we dove in with much anticipation. But after introducing eggs—one of the first allergens—we discovered that Evan has multiple food allergies.

The foods he couldn’t have—eggs, peanuts, and others—are the very ones I know he would love. I had imagined joyful, messy meals and the wonder of discovering new tastes together. Instead, we entered a world of extra caution and label-reading.

What Helped:

  • 👩‍⚕️ Finding a supportive allergist to guide us (Dr. Katie Bogusz at Impact Medical)
  • 🏷️ Reading labels with extra care—and becoming our own advocates
  • 🥄 Using Little Spoon for clean, nutritious, heat-and-eat meals I can trust (no cross-contamination!) Use my code to sign up to get $20 and I get $20!
  • 💛 Reminding myself he’s still growing and exploring so many delicious, safe foods

Food allergies bring a whole new set of worries and decisions. But like everything in parenthood—it’s a wild journey of making the most of every moment, despite the challenges.
